Opening Prayer

St. Augustine’s Holy Spirit Prayer

Breathe in me, O Holy Spirit, that my thoughts may all be holy. Act in me, O Holy Spirit, that my work, too, may be holy. Draw my heart, O Holy Spirit, that I love but what is holy. Strengthen me, O Holy Spirit, to defend all that is holy. Guard me, then, O Holy Spirit, that I always may be holy.

What does it mean to be holy?

If we are applying it to God, it is a noun. It means eternal perfection.

If applying it to a thing or place, it is an adjective. It means it is sacred and to be treated with reverence.

If we are applying it to humans, it is a verb. It means to do your best in all you do, try to uphold what is good and right, and balance these activities with prayer.

Closing Prayer

O Most Holy Spirit, God’s breath of Love and Grace

Thank you for delivering the divine Logos to us through Mary

For making available to us the sacraments of grace and forgiveness

And for coming here to make your home among us and within us.

How incredible it is that you are able to enter into our minds and hearts!

We thought we only had ourselves to talk to, but now we have You.

You have become my Advisor, my Sounding Board, my Teacher, my Advocate, and my Protector.

Thank you, you make all things possible.
